In the hottest week of August, 2010, my friend Dot Murphy and I decided to take a week's vacation in Arkansas. Our plans were to break in my new Nissan Altima sedan, see the country and take pictures, do some shopping and take in some shows in Branson, Missouri. It was hot but cooler than in Texas! (Dot is a good photographer and we both took pictures but these are all mine, so you will see pictures of a pretty girl and be spared pictures of me!) We spent the first night at Queen Wilhelmenia State Park; the lodge is at the top of a beautiful scenic drive. On to quaint Eureka Springs for two nights and then to Branson, with beautiful scenery all the way. On the last two nights in Branson we saw three shows and went shopping in the rain! On Friday we drove straight through to Dot's home in Sherman, Texas, logging about 1000 miles for our five-day trip. Thank you Lord, for a wonderful trip!
We saw lots of "flavors" of Baptist Churches. We thought this one really said something!
We stayed at an older Best Western Hotel that Dot knew; it was fine and it an excellent location.
Free breakfast in the Gazebo each morning!
I took this picture because these ladies were the fourth on our morning walk to tell Dot how cute her blouse was!
Famous and old...the Crescent Hotel. We explored the lobby and then climbed to the top to get a view of the Christ of the Ozarks statue, which we would visit the next day.
When I took this picture we didn't know the adjoining Mexican restaurant was to be our ONLY bad meal of the trip. :-)
The Crescent Hotel, looking back from the Christ of the Ozarks statue...
Adjacent to the statue is the site of the well know Ozarks Passion Play, presented on this huge outdoor stage.
A tiny portion of the beautiful and huge Table Top Lake near Branson.
I bought myself a sackful of the old fashioned candies that you don't find now-a-days...
REALLY! IT WAS A PIZZA PLACE! WE JUST WENT IN TO GET OUT OF THE RAIN, HONEST!
